The man, identified as Ranjit Pradhan, immediately jumped into the water and fought with the crocodile to rescue his domestic goat, but lost his hand in the fight.

In the fierce struggle, the crocodile bit off Ranjit’s hand. Severely injured, he was first taken to a health facility in Kishorenagar and was later transferred to Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH) for advanced treatment. His current condition is critical as doctors continue to provide emergency care.

This incident raises concerns about the safety of villagers near water bodies and calls for urgent measures to prevent such attacks in the future.

However, no comments were received from the police or the victim’s family in this regard.

Wirth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a crocodile had allegedly attacked a woman and dragged her into the river on June 16 in front of her daughter at Paniajora of Koladhia panchayat under Aul police limits of Kendrapara district.

The victim woman, then identified as Kajal Mohanty of Tanladiha village, had been washing clothes near the riverbank when the crocodile had emerged from the water and suddenly pulled her in. Her 13-year-old daughter, who was standing nearby, witnessed the shocking scene and had rushed to alert nearby villagers and family members to rescue her.

“Kajal was taking a bath in the river and washing clothes. Her daughter was standing on the bank. A crocodile suddenly appeared from somewhere and dragged her into the river. Her daughter then alerted the locals and a search operation was initiated, but to no avail,” a relative of the victim, Ananda Chandra Mohanty, had stated.
