‘She kept asking for water’: Arshad Warsi recalls heartbreaking last words of mother

Actor Arshad Warsi has always been known for his humour and charm on screen, but behind the laughter lies a story of deep loss. In a recent chat on Raj Shamani’s podcast, the actor recalled the most painful memory of his life, the last night he saw his mother alive. Arshad was just 14 years old, already struggling after his father’s death, when tragedy struck again.

The Night That Changed Everything

“My mother was a simple homemaker who cooked great food,” Arshad said. “She had kidney failure and was on dialysis. Doctors told us not to give her any water, but she kept asking for it. I kept saying no. The night before she passed away, she asked again, and I still said no. She died that night, and it killed me.”

He admitted that, even decades later, the memory still haunts him. “There’s a part of me that says if I had given her water and she’d died, I’d have carried that guilt forever. But now, as an adult, I think I should have given it to her. We make choices based on guilt, not empathy.”

Growing Up Too Soon

After losing both parents, Arshad had to grow up overnight. “I became mature very early. We lost money, our home, and then my parents. I didn’t even cry immediately, I was just trying to be a man. It hit me weeks later.”

Strength Through Pain

Years later, Arshad’s story stands as a poignant reminder of love, regret, and resilience the strength it takes to move forward while carrying the weight of loss.
