Thamma vs Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat BO collection day 9: Horror beats romance

The Indian box office witnessed an intriguing clash this festive season – a spooky laugh riot versus a soulful love story. While Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in just nine days, Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat continues to charm audiences with its emotional depth, holding strong with Rs 51 crore worldwide.

Thamma: Horror Meets Hilarity, and Box Office Magic

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma hit theatres on October 21, blending supernatural chaos with Ayushmann’s trademark comic timing. The film opened with an impressive Rs 24 crore, ending its first week at Rs 95.6 crore. According to Sacnilk, it added another Rs 2.72 crore on Wednesday, taking the total domestic collection to Rs 104.07 crore.

The horror-comedy achieved the Rs 100 crore milestone on its eighth day, continuing Ayushmann’s streak as one of Bollywood’s most consistent crowd-pullers. With its connection to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, Thamma has become the second-highest earner in the franchise.

The celebrations spilled onto social media when Aparshakti Khurrana, who plays Bittu in the Stree films, posted a hilarious video welcoming his brother into the universe. Bowing playfully, he said, “Bhaiyaa, aap bhi? Welcome to the universe!” Ayushmann replied with his signature wit, “Ayushmann bhavah!”

The brothers’ camaraderie mirrored the film’s tone – quirky, warm, and delightfully meta.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat: Love, Longing, and Steady Gains

While Thamma ruled the multiplexes, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, carved a niche among romance lovers. The film opened to Rs 9 crore and sustained well during its first week. By its ninth day, the romantic drama added Rs 2.22 crore, reaching a Rs 51.72 crore India net total.

Despite facing stiff competition, the film’s music, heartfelt storytelling, and Rane’s raw intensity found a loyal audience, especially in Tier-2 cities.

Meanwhile, responding to comparisons with Shah Rukh Khan, Rane wrote humbly on Instagram, “Please, I beg you not to even put my name alongside his in any article. He is God, aur main unka ek mamuli pujari hoon!” (sic)

The Diwali weekend brought together two very different cinematic worlds – one filled with ghosts and giggles, the other with passion and pain. Thamma’s quirky humour and shared universe appeal made it a multiplex magnet, while Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’s soulful narrative resonated emotionally.
