Rs 1 crore cash, gold & silver worth lakhs seized from cattle mafia’s house

The Keonjhar Police on Saturday seized cash to the tune of Rs 1 crore, and jewellery including gold, and silver worth lakhs, during a raid at the house of a suspected cattle mafia in Mullasahi under Bhadrak’s Purunabazar police station.

Suspicions of illegal cattle smuggling in the area initially prompted the raid. The accused, identified as Sheikh Tajuddin, had bundles upon bundles of Rs 500 notes stashed at his house.

Massive Cash and Assets Recovered

The amount was so substantial that police had to bring in cash-counting machines. Cars on the premises are also being thoroughly checked. The raid was carried out based on earlier complaints filed against the accused.

Jewellery, gold, and silver belonging to him were recovered, and officials confirmed that a market complex and a residential college near Bhadrak Bypass Road, owned by the accused, will also be raided shortly.

Coordinated Multi-District Operation

According to police sources, a total of nine officers, including one DSP, two inspectors, six sub-inspectors, and two platoons of force, are involved in the operation. The raid is being conducted under Section 107 BNS, and after obtaining a search warrant from the court.

More details awaited.
