Tension prevailed in parts of Bhubaneswar late on Saturday night after a youth was allegedly chased and attacked with sharp weapons by three individuals near an apartment complex close to Kelucharan Park. The incident is suspected to be the result of a long-standing rivalry between two groups.
According to preliminary reports, the victim was pursued and repeatedly assaulted, leaving him critically injured. Police personnel from Chandrasekharpur and Mancheswar police stations rushed to the spot upon receiving information, rescued the injured youth, and immediately shifted him to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have described his condition as serious.
The incident triggered panic and unrest in the locality, prompting the deployment of three platoons of police to prevent any further escalation and to maintain law and order. Senior officers monitored the situation on the ground as a precautionary measure.

While police have not yet issued an official statement, sources indicated that the attack may be linked to a previous clash involving the same groups. The lawyer representing the accused claimed that the violence was a continuation of an earlier dispute, during which one of the youths had sustained a serious head injury and was admitted to a private hospital. He added that counter cases were registered following the earlier incident and that the accused later decided to surrender as police intensified the search.
Meanwhile, police have launched a detailed investigation to identify all those involved in the attack and to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the assault. Further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
